Healthy Bagels You NEED To Try!

Scrolling through Tik Tok, I have accumulated a huge list of healthy recipes to try out in quarantine. I came across an easy and super healthy bagel recipe and I knew I had to try it. They came out so good! I had to alter the recipe a little because I am gluten-free, but it still worked great. Keep reading to see the recipe and learn to make them yourself!


Ingredients

1 cup plain greek yogurt

1 cup self-rising flour (the gluten-free flour I have is not self-rising, so I added 1 cup of the GF flour along with one packet of yeast)

Everything bagel seeds

1 egg


  1. Get one cup of the greek yogurt and add it to the mixing bowl

  2. Add one cup of flour to the mixing bowl with the yogurt (add your yeast here as well if you are using GF flour!)

  3. Add everything seeds to the mixture. I don’t have an exact measurement for these, but add a ton! If you are worried about adding too much, add some and you can always add more in the next couple of steps.

  4. Mix the mixture together as much as you can with a spoon. It is going to look dry and you need more yogurt, resist the urge, do not add more!!

  5. After you mixed it as much as you can, knead it with your hands for a couple of minutes. After you knead it all out, it should look like dough and all the contents should be mixed together. If you think you might want to add more seeds, add them here and then knead them into the dough.

  6. Separate the big ball of dough into 4 smaller balls.

  7. Roll each ball out into a log, then connect the two ends to form a donut/bagel shape. Mix the two ends together so they look connected and won't break.

  8. Crack one egg into a small bowl, mix it up so the egg yolk mixes with the egg white, and paint the bagel with it. I did both the top and bottom so the whole bagel was covered with egg.

  9. Add some more everything seeds to the top of your bagel; they should stick really well because of the egg.

  10. Place them on a tray with aluminum foil and spray the aluminum foil with non-stick spray before placing down the bagels.

  11. Put them in the oven for 20 minutes at 425 degrees.

  12. Then set the oven to broil for about a minute. The original said 2 minutes but my bagels started to burn, so I took them out after one.


That's it! These taste amazing if you eat them fresh, but if you store them for later, toast them for a couple of minutes to get the warm bagel feel. They are so soft which I definitely was not expecting. I would personally eat them with cream cheese, or if I was feeling a little healthier I would put some avocados on top and maybe an egg as well. If you love bagels this is definitely the recipe to try! They are totally guilt-free and an amazing breakfast.
