DIY College Merch!
Now that senior year has come to an end, almost all of us are probably thinking about college and getting excited for the next four years of our lives. One thing I am most excited about is game days. Of course, you’re going to need some cute gear for tailgates and games. Here is an easy way to make your own college merch at home!
T-shirt or tank top (whichever you prefer)
Scissors or fabric cutter
Get whatever clothing item you desire to DIY. So far I have made a tank top and a t-shirt, both from Walmart. They were so cheap, only about three dollars per shirt or less. I decided to crop mine because they were super long and I prefer them cropped. I tried it on and marked where I wanted to cut them. I used a fabric cutter to cut the shirts, but scissors work just as well- just make sure you are cutting in a straight line. In order to make sure I cut along a straight line, I used a cutting board and aligned it with the attached ruler. Using a regular ruler works as well I couldn't find mine! Once you have your shirt ready to go, move on to step two.
It is time to find whatever you want to put on your shirt now. I googled my college name and then stickers after, so I typed in “umich stickers.” Go to images from the google search and look through those. When you find one you like, save the image to your desktop and print it out with color. Then just cut it out and you're ready to go. Keep in mind the cutting does not have to be perfect, just get it as best as you can!
Once your image is the size you want and cut out, get your clear cling wrap and wrap the back and front of the image with the plastic wrap. Try to get it with as little bumps and creases as you can, and make sure the image is straight. Cut off excess plastic around the edges.
Time to iron! Get your shirt and place the image covered in plastic on the shirt wherever you want it. Then place the parchment paper over top of the image. Iron on top of the parchment paper. DO NOT iron without the parchment paper over top!! I ironed it for about a minute. Peel off the parchment paper when you are done. Do not put the shirt on right away!!! If it stretches right away, it will peel off because it has not dried yet. Trust me, I learned the hard way. If you happen to do this by accident, put the shirt back down and place the parchment paper back on top and re-iron it down. It should come out just as good. Just remember to let it dry.
