5 Cute and Easy Hairstyles for Short Hair

These are some of my favorite quick and easy hairstyles to do on my short hair, but these can also work well with people who have long hair as well! Check out my tiktok below to see the hairstyles "in action!"

Space Buns

This is one of my favorite hairstyles to do, and it works really well with my short hair. It’s super fun, cute and is perfect to wear to festivals, concerts, or with just a lazy day outfit.

  1. Part your hair down the middle and equally section it into two

  2. Take one side of hair and throw it into a side ponytail to keep it out of the way as you work on the first section

  3. Take the first section and pull it up like you would do a high ponytail, but also angle it to the side. Use brush to do this to avoid any bumps

  4. Instead of putting it in a ponytail, twist it around itself and then lay it in a spiral so it is a bun. Secure it with a normal elastic.

  5. Take a scrunchie and go over the bun one more time to make it more secure.

  6. Repeat steps 3-5 for the second section of hair.

Half-Up Half-Down Pigtails

This is another super fun and playful hairstyle, that takes literally no time to do.

  1. Part your hair down the middle.

  2. Trace your finger from the end of your eyebrow into the front of your hair and pick up a top layer section of hair from one side.

  3. Use a brush to pull it into a high pigtail and make sure to smooth down any bumps.

  4. Take a small clear plastic elastic and secure it, and tighten it to make it sit higher on your head.

  5. Repeat steps 2-4 on the other side of my hair.

Braided Bun

This is another easy hairstyle that is an upgrade to your regular bun.

  1. Pull your hair into a high ponytail using a brush and secure it with a regular elastic.

  2. Braid the ponytail as far down as it can go; my braid isn’t usually perfect and some pieces fall out because my hair is kinda short, but that doesn’t really matter.

  3. Secure the end of the braid with either a normal elastic or a small clear elastic.

  4. Wrap the braid around itself to form a bun/spiral on the top of your haid and go over it with a scrunchie to secure it.

  5. Tuck any extra pieces of hair into the scrunchie, and use the scrunchie to hide the end of the braid so the elastic isn’t showing.

That 70’s Show Inspired Mini Side Braids

I decided to try this hairstyle because Donna from “That 70’s Show” would always wear it, and I thought it was so cute. This is probably the easiest hairstyle, and really elevates your look if you just want to wear your hair down.

  1. Part your hair however you want, but I think that this works best with a middle part, so that’s what I do.

  2. Take a small top section of hair about 1/2-1in in from the front of your head.

  3. Do a simple braid all the way down and secure it with a clear plastic elastic.

  4. Repeat steps 2-3 on the other side.

Dutch Braid Into a Bun

This is probably the most involved hairstyle on this list, but it is pretty fast, and works well with short hair. This low bun looks really put together and chic, but is still super youthful.

  1. Part your hair down the middle and split it into two equal sections.

  2. Put one section in a ponytail to keep it out of the way.

  3. Do a side dutch braid with the first section of hair starting from the front of your head all the way down, and secure it with a clear plastic elastic. If you don’t know how to do a dutch braid, there are a ton of youtube vides on it, and it is very similar to a french braid. You essentially braid like normal, but you cross the outer piece under the middle piece, and you grap a section of hair from the outside each time you cross.

  4. Do the same to the other section of hair.

  5. Pull both braids into the back of my had and take a scrunctie and pull into a low ponytail, except I only pull your hair halfay through the srunchie the last time so that it is a bun instead.
